Finite Element Model of a Mobile Batch Plant

The finite element model shown above was carefully constructed to match the stiffness and inertial properties of the actual structure. The model was used to determine the fundamental modes in each of its principal directions.  Then a linear response spectrum analysis was performed on the model to ascertain how the actual structure would withstand the California Building Code requirements for seismic zone 4 load .  Difficulties were encountered in considering the required load combinations specified by the code, due to limitations in the analysis software. View a Video Clip (840 MB ) of the First Four Fundamental Mode Shapes. To gain a better perspective of the actual size of this structure, the opened bay at the lower left is a drive thru for standard cement trucks.
