Silo Pressure Profile (cont.)

The above envelope of normal wall pressures (excluding hydrostatic pressure), with a pressure spike at the cone / cylinder interface, is a possible worst case condition that could exist under the following circumstance: 

1) The silo is drained to the cone top level, 

2) Then the silo is filled to the top.  This combination of operations would leave a passive stress field in the cone and an active stress field in the cylinder compartment.  However, other operation sequences can produce a pressure spike further up the silo wall.
